Where do published audiences go in Raiser's Edge NXT?
Last updated: October 8, 2026
Publishing an audience puts your donors in Raiser's Edge NXT, ready to work from.
When you publish an audience from Dataro to Raiser's Edge NXT, Dataro creates two records in your database. This article explains what they are, where to find them, and which one to use. For the steps to publish an audience, see Publishing an audience to your CRM.
What does Dataro create in Raiser's Edge NXT?
Dataro creates the following, both named after your audience:
A constituent list containing every donor in the audience.
An appeal, with each donor in the audience added to it.
Both records hold the same donors at the point you published.
Where do I find the constituent list?
The constituent list is in web view, which makes it the easiest place for most fundraising teams to start.
In Raiser's Edge NXT, go to Constituents and select Constituent lists.
Search for the name of your audience.
Open the list to see your donors. From here you can work with the list as you would any other constituent list (e.g. add columns, export, or use it for a mailing).
Where do I find the appeal?
When the publish is complete, Dataro sends you an email with a link to the appeal. Depending on your version of Raiser's Edge NXT and your permissions, appeals may only be visible in database view.
The appeal will show as created by Dataro's integration user rather than by the person who published it. If you are searching for it, search by the audience name rather than by who created it.
Which one should I use?
We recommend using the constituent list for day-to-day work with your audience, such as pulling contact details or preparing a mailing.
The appeal is your campaign record. If you are running a campaign from this audience, we recommend coding gifts to the appeal so you can report on how it performed. For more on how we recommend structuring appeals, see Storing data on Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT.
Can I add my audience to an appeal I have already created?
Yes. When you publish, you can choose to create a new appeal or select an existing one from your database. If you have already set up an appeal for your campaign, selecting it avoids creating a duplicate.
How long does publishing take?
Dataro adds donors to Raiser's Edge NXT one at a time, so larger audiences take longer. A publish may also wait in a queue for a few minutes before it starts. You can check its progress on the CRM Queue tab.
What happens if I edit the constituent list afterwards?
Once the publish is complete, the constituent list and the appeal are separate records. If you add or remove donors in the list, the appeal is not updated. The appeal remains a record of who was in the audience when you published it.
What happens if I publish the same audience again?
A publish sends your audience as it was at that moment. If your audience has changed and you publish it again, Dataro creates a new constituent list and a new appeal, unless you select an existing appeal when you publish.
Can I delete the appeal if I don't need it?
You can, but we recommend checking with your database administrator first. Deleting an appeal in Raiser's Edge NXT also removes it from every constituent record it was added to, and Raiser's Edge may not let you delete an appeal that already has gifts linked to it.
Can I publish my audience as a query?
Not at the moment. However, Dataro's ranks and scores are stored on each constituent record as custom fields, so you can build a list or query in Raiser's Edge NXT that filters on them directly (e.g. everyone with a Dataro DM Appeal Rank of 5,000 or less). See Extracting Predict scores on Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT.
