Frequently asked questions about the Dataro External Client App

Common questions about installing the Dataro External Client App and what changes in your Salesforce org.

Will my Dataro data stop while I upgrade?

No. This changes the app you connect to Dataro with. It does not change how Dataro processes your data, and your models keep running throughout.

If your Dataro data is on the Account or Contact Objects, your scores arrive in a new set of fields after the upgrade. The data keeps coming. You need to point your reports and other tools at the new fields to see it.

Who at my organization needs to do this?

A Salesforce System Administrator. They install the app.

If your Dataro data is on the Account or Contact Objects, they also assign the Dataro User permission set and add the new fields to your page layouts. Nobody else on your team needs to do anything.

Why do I have to install anything? The existing integration works.

Salesforce is retiring the mechanism the existing integration uses. From the Spring 2026 release, Salesforce no longer allows new Connected Apps, and treats External Client Apps as the standard way for an outside system to connect to your org.

The change also gives you more control. Your admin decides which users can authorize Dataro, and can tighten or remove that access at any time. No user can connect Dataro on their own, and the External Client App blocks the older username and password OAuth flow, which exposes credentials.

Can I install in Production without testing in Sandbox first?

Yes. We recommend installing in Sandbox first and testing the connection there, then installing in Production. If your org has no Sandbox, install in Production.

Why does Salesforce warn me the app is not authorized for distribution?

The Dataro package is in the Salesforce security review queue. The warning means the review has not finished, not that the package failed anything. Reviews usually take about six weeks, and the review does not change how the package works.

You can install now and check the acknowledgement, or wait until the review completes. Once the review completes the warning goes away for new installs, and you do not need to reinstall.

What happens to my old Dataro fields?

If your Dataro data is on the Account or Contact Objects, the old fields stay in your org and stop updating, so they hold their last values. Dataro cannot remove them. You can delete them yourself once you have pointed everything at the new fields, but you do not have to.

If your Dataro data is on any other Object, nothing changes. Dataro keeps writing to the same fields.

Do I have to do anything if my Dataro data is on a custom Object?

Install the app. That is all. Your Dataro fields do not change, and your reports, dashboards, list views, and segments keep working exactly as they do today.

To use the Dataro Single Gift model, add the two Single Gift fields to your Object yourself. See Dataro custom fields for custom Objects in Salesforce for the names to use.

When do I remove the old Dataro Connected App?

After your Dataro fields have updated through the new connection, which can take up to a week. Check your fields first, then remove the old app.

Do not remove it during the install. If you remove the old app before the new connection has delivered data, your Dataro data stops. If your fields have not updated after a week, contact Dataro rather than removing the old app.

Can I see my Dataro scores straight after the install?

Not immediately, and not without two more steps if your Dataro data is on the Account or Contact Objects. The app creates the new fields, but it does not assign the Dataro User permission set and it does not place the fields on any page layout. Your admin does both.

If your Dataro data is on any other Object, your existing fields keep updating and there is nothing to set up.
